{"id":2072,"date":"2017-01-11T09:34:47","date_gmt":"2017-01-11T09:34:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tekhead.it\/blog\/?p=2072"},"modified":"2017-01-11T09:34:47","modified_gmt":"2017-01-11T09:34:47","slug":"use-flash-storage-not-miss-storage-unpacked-podcast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tekhead.it\/blog\/2017\/01\/use-flash-storage-not-miss-storage-unpacked-podcast\/","title":{"rendered":"If you use Flash Storage, do NOT miss this Storage Unpacked Podcast!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just a very quick post today&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t often write blog posts either responding to, or recommending things, as I usually just fire them out on Twitter or LinkedIn.<\/p>\n<p>That said, I enjoyed this particular podcast episode so much, I felt I needed to share it with my [two] subscribers via a post!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h5>Storage Unpacked<\/h5>\n<p>I have been listing with great interest to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/chrismevans\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Evans<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/storagebod\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Glassborow&#8217;s<\/a> new <a href=\"http:\/\/storageunpacked.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Storage Unpacked<\/a> podcast for the past couple of months. If you are either a storage afficionado, or even a generalist, i highly recommend it.<\/p>\n<p>The particular episode I am referring to is <a href=\"http:\/\/storageunpacked.com\/2017\/01\/talking-nand-flash-with-jim-handy-part-one\/\" target=\"_blank\">Talking NAND Flash with Jim Handy<\/a>, specifically <a href=\"http:\/\/storageunpacked.com\/2017\/01\/talking-nand-flash-with-jim-handy-part-one\/\" target=\"_blank\">Part One, released 6th Jan this year.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As someone who follows the storage industry with interest, this episode was a great insight as to the history and decisions which have led us to where we are with flash storage today, as well as some fascinating facts and figures.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t want to preempt or spoil the episode, but for example did you know:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nanometer scale productions actually mean working at the scale of <em>millionths of a millimeter<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Fabrication plants cost around $8 Billion each to make, and the machines involved in creating the chips cost about $100 million <em>each<\/em>!<\/li>\n<li>It takes 3 months to create a single chip from the raw materials!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These, and other interesting things can be found on the episode, below &#8211; I highly recommend you check it out (and dont forget to subscribe to their podcast)!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/storageunpacked.com\/2017\/01\/talking-nand-flash-with-jim-handy-part-one\/\" target=\"_blank\">Talking NAND Flash with Jim Handy &#8211; Part One<\/a><\/p>\n<h5>Further Info<\/h5>\n<p>I listen to about 20+ podcasts on a regular basis (the one and only good thing about commuting every day to the office!).
